The conferment ceremony is arranged jointly by the faculties at Uppsala University. The conferment ceremony is the graduation ceremony where those who have achieved a doctor’s degree are awarded their honorary insignia (laurels or doctor’s hats, diplomas etc.). This is also when the honorary doctors and jubilee doctors, those who acquired their doctor’s degree fifty years ago, are celebrated.

From the day of a thesis defence, a new doctor has a period of three years (i.e. six opportunities) in which to opt to participate in the Conferment Ceremony. Participation in the ceremony is only allowed once.
