Energy metabolism, autonomous nerve system function and cognition in schizophrenia

This clinical research project investigates physiological and psychophysiological parameters in patients with schizophrenia and healthy controls.Already published results indicate several disturbances in physiological recations regarding electrodermal activity and niacin sensititivity, but also more basal parameters like resting energy expenditure, body water content and substrate utilization during exercise.

The participants were also examined with an extensive neurocognitive test battery. The continuation of the project focus on how cognitive and personality related parameters interact with physiological data. The project will add knowledge about the relationship between cognitive/personality related factors and clinical parameters, issues that are relevant for coping and functional outcome in schizophrenia.
